Nasdaq has reportedly joined forces with Gemini, purchasing $50 million in shares during the crypto exchange’s $317 million IPO as part of a broader strategic partnership.

Nasdaq Gains Strategic Access to Gemini Services

According to a Reuters report, Nasdaq’s investment is tied to a collaboration that will give the stock exchange access to Gemini’s crypto custody and staking services. In return, Gemini’s institutional clients will gain access to Nasdaq’s Calypso platform, a system designed to manage and track trading collateral across markets.

The dual integration highlights how traditional financial exchanges are deepening their presence in digital assets by leveraging crypto-native infrastructure.

IPO Backing Strengthens Gemini

Gemini, founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, is targeting $317 million in proceeds from its IPO. Nasdaq’s $50 million private placement strengthens investor confidence at a time when U.S. exchanges are racing to expand crypto and tokenized securities offerings.

The partnership plans are still subject to market conditions, but the alignment between Nasdaq and Gemini suggests a long-term commitment to bridging traditional finance (TradFi) with crypto services.

Nasdaq’s Push Into Tokenization

This investment follows Nasdaq’s recent announcement of a major move into tokenized securities. On Monday, the exchange filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to amend rules enabling the trading of blockchain-based versions of traditional stocks.

Nasdaq emphasized that tokenized securities should trade on regulated and established platforms, not fragmented or siloed venues. The move was also seen as a response to the growing popularity of tokenized U.S. stocks in Europe, including offerings by Gemini, which launched tokenized trading for shares such as MicroStrategy (MSTR) earlier this year.

If completed, the Gemini–Nasdaq partnership could mark a milestone in financial market modernization, blending Wall Street infrastructure with crypto-native tools.

By tapping Gemini’s custody and staking expertise, Nasdaq can offer institutional clients direct exposure to digital assets under regulated frameworks, while Gemini benefits from expanded institutional credibility and Nasdaq’s global reach.
